CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Classical Hatha Yoga (all levels or beginners, intermediate, advanced): Hatha Yoga is a holistic approach to promoting vibrant health and personal fulfillment. Hatha Yoga embraces the physical aspects of Yoga, the classical Yoga poses (asana’s), breathing techniques (pranayama) and the ethical principles of Yoga (Yama’s and Niyama’s). Meditation and relaxation techniques form a part of our Hatha Yoga classes.
Gentle Hatha Yoga (all levels welcome): This class allows you to work comfortably at your own pace in a stress free, non competitive environment. Classical Yoga poses (asanas) and stretches that focus on alignment, posture improvement and self awareness are explored. Breathing, relaxation techniques and stress management form an integral part of this nurturing class. Suited for individuals seeking simplicity and skills for living a more relaxed and content lifestyle. This class is open to beginners, ongoing students, pre and post natal students and is excellent for recovery from injury or surgery.
Yoga/Pilates/Balls and props: A fun energetic fusion of Classical Yoga poses, flowing Yoga and Pilates sequences incorporating various sizes and types of fitness balls and props. Designed for students wanting it all! Strengthen, tone and energize your body as you improve your flexibility, balance and range of motion. Not recommended for students with low blood pressure or any recent injuries.
Yogalates: a fusion of various styles of Yoga and Pilates open to all levels and ages. Pilates Mat (level 1 and level 2 classes): Pilates is a unique system of body conditioning exercises developed over 85 years ago by Joseph Pilates. Pilate’s techniques focus on core stability and body awareness. Pilates will strengthen, lengthen and tone your muscles as it improves your balance, co-ordination and stamina. Unique breathing techniques and postural alignment form an important part of Pilate’s classes.
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga: An athletic and physically challenging form of Hatha Yoga using breath synchronized movements. Uninterrupted flow of movement, Yoga asana’s and ujjiya breathing will increase you strength, stamina, range of motion and agility as you develop your lung capacity and body awareness. Must be physically fit with no known health problems or injuries. No recommended for pre natal students or those suffering with wrist, neck or shoulder injuries. Due to the constant flow and up and down movement this class is also not recommended for students with high or low blood pressure.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga: Vinyasa flow differs from the Ashtanga Yoga as the flows offer more variations and do not need to be done in any specific order. Vinyasa flow is fun and dynamic and integrates rhythmic breathing with flowing Yoga Asana’s (poses). This ancient style of Yoga becomes a “meditation in motion with breath” to refine and develop strength, balance, co-ordination and flexibility. Improve your body awareness and postural alignment as you tone and lengthen your muscles. It is recommended that you have prior Yoga experience and knowledge of the poses before taking this class or be fit with no known injuries.
Yoga & Pilates for Teens: Yoga improves strength, focus, balance, self esteem and will improve teen’s concentration. Yoga helps teens accept challenges and allows them to “feel more comfortable in their own skin”. Yoga increases flexibility of body and mind, teaches self acceptance and self love. The importance of good posture and relaxation and breathing techniques are covered in this program as well as stress management.
Infrared Hot Yoga: Classical Yoga asana’s (poses), Yoga flows and sequences along with guided breathing techniques are designed to detoxify you from the inside out. Studio is heated to 100 - 120 degrees Fahrenheit (up to 40 degrees Celsius) Hot Yoga rejuvenates, heals, strengthens, reshapes and relaxes you body and mind.
Hot Yogalates: A challenging fusion of Yoga and Pilates poses and progressions focusing of core strength and flexibility. An excellent class for toning your abdominal muscles, legs and buttocks as well as strengthening your back. Must be physically fit with recent Yoga and Pilates experience and no known health problems or injuries. Screening process is required for registration in Hot Yogalates classes.
Yin Yoga: As taught by Yin Yoga expert Paul Grilley: Simple yet challenging Yoga asana’s (poses) held for extended periods of time, designed to stretch and stimulate the deep connective “Yin” tissues of the body. Suitable for all levels, this practice stimulates chi flow and maintains the health of the meridian system of the body and is the ideal compliment to dynamic, muscular or “Yang” forms of Yoga.
Partner Yoga: Classical Hatha Yoga poses and Thai massage techniques designed for couples and partners to work in unison with one another. Breathing and relaxation techniques form a part of this class as well as learning how to share Thai massage techniques on each other. A perfect way to connect or re-connect with your mate or friend. No Yoga experience is needed.
Family Yoga: Classical Hatha Yoga, fun, lessons on self esteem, correct posture and alignment, breathing. Relax, let loose and enjoy the company of our children. No Yoga experience is needed. Absolute beginners adult Ballet: No experience needed. All sizes, shapes and fitness levels welcome. Come and learn the principles of ballet in a light-hearted setting. All that is required is a willingness to learn something new.
Sadhanna: Self practice, this is an opportunity to come in and use the studio during any times marked Sadhanna on our schedule to work on your Yoga, meditation or breathing on your own. This is not a guided or led class. Meditation: At Free Spirit Yoga & Pilates we offer many meditation techniques to help deeper your practice. Meditation skills and techniques are an integral part of all of our Yoga classes. We do not adopt any religious beliefs into our classes instead opting for spirituality, whatever it is the each individual. We offer group and private meditation classes as well as Reiki and energy healing.
Pranayama: Breathing techniques are intertwined and form an integral part of all of our classes. Pranayama is our vital life force, we are only as strong and vibrant as the breath we breathe.
